Djäkneberget

Djäkneberget, in central Västerås, provides both visitors and residents with an unusual oasis. This nature park has received its name from ”djäkerna”, an old name for students at upper secondary school.

It is more than just the name that serves as a reminder of days of old. The park has almost 500 stones with inscriptions,
Djäkneberget Västerås
reflections and names of honourable people.

The learned Sam Lidman, a former colonel who became a language and physical education teacher, commissioned the park in the 19th century. Lidman also planted a number of park trees on the hill and laid the paths that still exist today.

This green area is still a popular place for fun and games, with its mini golf course, playground, restaurant and popular summer dance pavilion.
